Recording: passcode: F7og.iH@

The focus of this workshop will be on reconnecting, sharing goals and expectations for Phase 3,  and gathering input from the cohort to inform program plans.

1) Teacher Leadership Institute overview and goals for Phase 3

2) Community connection

3) Input on professional learning

TASK BEFORE 11/5 MEETING:  Add logistical info for potential PD sessions to January to spreadsheet. COE will email principals and district C&I to request their support in allocating time for PD sessions. After that email goes out, teacher leaders please arrange to meet with your school leaders to discuss and gather info on potential PD times in January.

NOVEMBER 5, 4:00 - 5:15 pm

TOPIC: MODEL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SESSION ON NGSS AND ENVIRONMENTAL LITERACY

Session Slides are here

This workshop will engage all participants in a model professional learning session that introduces environmental literacy. Participants will use this experience to understand the learner experience and identify effective training practices to inform the design of PD sessions.

TASK BEFORE 11/12 MEETING: In the Notecatcher (linked in the slide deck), capture in the purple table your observations from the "learners lens" experience of the model PD session. These observations will be used to debrief on 11/12.

NOVEMBER 12, 4:00 - 5:15 pm

TOPIC: DEBRIEF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SESSION

Session Slides are here.

The focus of this workshop will be reflecting on PD structure, pedagogy and facilitation techniques from the prior session.

TASKS BEFORE 11/19 MEETING:  Review the lesson sequences developed in past TLIs for your grade level. Gather any tools or resources for developing professional learning sessions that you would like to share with us or your collaborators (this one is optional--if you don't have any tools to share it is fine!).

IMPORTANT UPDATE on PD Implementation expectations is here. This doc shows what each district's expectation are in terms of teacher leaders facilitating PD this year or not.

NOVEMBER 19, 4:00 - 5:15 pm

TOPIC: PROFESSIONAL LEARNING GOALS AND BEST PRACTICES

Session Slides are here.

1) Review grade level  TLI lesson sequences and identify the lesson(s) your grade level PD will focus on. Lesson sequences can all be found here:

2020-2021 Hyperdoc Lessons (K, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, HS)

2019-2020 Year 2 Cohort’s Lesson Sequences (TK/K, 1, 2, 3, 4-5, 7, 8, HS)

2018-2019 Year 1 Cohort’s Lesson Sequences (K, 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, HS)

2) Examine the PD template tools and resources for use in development of professional learning sessions

TASKS BEFORE 12/3 MEETING:

EE partners - Create draft PD session for your lesson sequence. Make a copy of the Facilitation Guide Template and slide deck rename, share with your teacher collaborators and Amity as editors then use it to focus on drafting the contents of the overview table on pages 4-6. No need to complete all the detailed steps in the Template by Dec 3.  If possible, engage teachers on Dec 3 in a small part of the PD to test it out then share the overview and flow of your draft agenda for the PD session. You will have more time for this on Dec 10 as well.

Teachers - Identify any adopted curriculum connections to lesson sequence that could be integrated into the PD.  No need to add anything to the PD template doc yet.

EVERYONE - Review these resources shared in the session:

CLARIFICATIONS:

A participant described their thoughts about what the PD might look like: "We were thinking about focusing the PD on interacting with one of our lessons in the sequence - as the engage part of our PD...then add an overview of the entire sequence." YES! This is ideal! Use one lesson to engage or explore the topic with teachers in the "learner lens" and then use the rest of the time in the PD to provide an overview of the rest of the lesson sequence, including them in the process of identifying the 5Es and pedagogy aligned to the MWEE and NGSS frameworks.

The final product that is produced will be a facilitator guide that provides all the guidance needed for anyone to be able to use it to lead the PD, though ideally it would be a teacher leaders or someone who has used the lesson sequence in depth. The template and examples linked in the template provide structure and guidance on how to create the guide.

A helpful notes from Mollie at Coastal Watershed Council: CWC has done what Amity and Stephanie are talking about to adapt the hyperdoc to work for on-campus/classroom program. Wanted to share our 3rd grade lesson unit in case it's helpful. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1nkCwMAUtfIiYbA1ewkbC1OTCD1QQVmPxnCUIrb6FbxQ/edit
